Second Lady Usha Vance is taking storytime digital. She launched a new podcast for children on Monday, “Storytime with the Second Lady,” where she reads books alongside guests, including authors, athletes, and entertainers, aiming to spark a love of reading nationwide.
Vice President JD Vance praised the effort in a social media post, writing that he was “very proud” of his wife for launching the project.
The first three episodes debuted Monday on streaming platforms, including Spotify and YouTube. In the opening episode, Vance reads “The Tale of Peter Rabbit” by Beatrix Potter, a story she described as one of her childhood favorites.
“Story time with my kids is the highlight of my day,” Vance said, emphasizing the role books have played in her family’s daily life. She added that reading has helped her children explore topics ranging from science and history to distant cultures, while also creating meaningful family moments.
Subsequent episodes feature guest appearances, including race car driver Danica Patrick, who reads Disney’s “Cars,” and Paralympic bronze medalist Brent Poppen, who shares his own book, “Playground Lessons.”
The podcast builds on Vance’s broader efforts to promote childhood literacy. In 2025, she launched a nationwide Summer Reading Challenge for students in kindergarten through eighth grade, encouraging them to read 12 books over the summer. Participants who completed the challenge received certificates and small prizes, with tens of thousands of submissions reported.
A spokesperson for the second lady said the initiative reflects her commitment to education and her goal of making reading more accessible and engaging for children across the country.
With the launch of her podcast, Vance is expanding that effort into the digital space, offering families a new way to incorporate reading into their routines.
