Vice President JD Vance said he plans to dig into the government’s most closely guarded UFO files, while suggesting the mysterious sightings may be better understood through a spiritual lens rather than as evidence of alien life.
Speaking on conservative commentator Benny Johnson’s podcast, Vance said he has not yet reviewed the highest-level classified material on unidentified flying objects, but intends to do so before leaving office. “Trust me, anybody who’s curious about this, I’m more curious than anybody,” Vance said. “I’m gonna get to the bottom of it… I’m obsessed with this.”
Vance went further, offering his personal view that the phenomena may not be extraterrestrial. “I don’t think they’re aliens, I think they’re demons anyway, but that’s a longer discussion,” he said, linking the idea to longstanding religious teachings about supernatural forces. He noted that Christianity and other major religions have historically interpreted unexplained events as involving both good and evil spiritual entities.
The vice president also referenced past interest in visiting Area 51 and other locations tied to UFO speculation, but said he had not yet made those trips.
His comments come as the federal government continues to review unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP). Recent findings from the Pentagon’s All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office and NASA have concluded there is no verified evidence of extraterrestrial technology or contact, with many cases attributed to balloons, drones, or other airborne objects.
The issue has drawn renewed attention in recent weeks, including speculation following the registration of government domain names such as Alien.gov. Former President Barack Obama also addressed the topic earlier this year, clarifying that he saw no evidence of alien contact during his time in office.
Vance’s remarks highlight a different perspective on the long-running debate, framing the mystery in religious terms as federal agencies continue to evaluate the data.
