Vice President JD Vance said there is “no way” the United States will become embroiled in a long-term conflict in Iran, stressing that President Donald Trump has clearly defined objectives for military operations in the region.
In an interview with Fox News host Jesse Watters, Vance contrasted the current situation with past conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq, noting that those wars lacked clear objectives and extended over years. “The president has clearly defined what he wants to accomplish,” Vance said. “There’s just no way Donald Trump is going to allow this country to get into a multi-year conflict with no clear end in sight, and no clear objective.”
Vance outlined Trump’s stated goal as preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons and ensuring the country commits to never rebuilding its nuclear capability. He added that Trump’s approach differs from past Republican and Democratic administrations, which he said engaged in wars without well-defined aims.
The comments come after Trump announced joint U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran aimed at destroying missile stockpiles. The president also confirmed the death of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei over the weekend.
According to reporting from Breitbart News, additional Iranian leaders, including Ali Shamkhani and Abdolrahim Mousavi, were reportedly killed during the strikes.
U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) reported Monday that six American service members have been killed in action as part of ongoing Operation Epic Fury, highlighting the human cost of the campaign while reaffirming the administration’s focus on achieving defined objectives in the conflict.
