Yale University announced it will offer free tuition to families earning up to $200,000 per year, significantly expanding its financial aid program. The initiative is designed to make the Ivy League school more accessible to middle- and upper-middle-class students and reduce reliance on student loans.

Under the expanded program, families earning less than $100,000 annually will have all costs of attendance, including tuition, room, and board, covered. Those earning between $100,000 and $200,000 will benefit from a sliding scale that reduces tuition based on income. Yale said the policy will take effect immediately for new and returning students.

University officials emphasized that the move reflects Yale's commitment to equity and access, ensuring that talented students are not excluded due to financial constraints. The expansion is expected to put pressure on other elite universities to reconsider their financial aid models and could reshape the landscape of higher education affordability.
