Cameron Young fired a 7-under-par 65 during Saturday's third round of the Masters Tournament to vault into a tie for the lead with Rory McIlroy at 11-under par. The 28-year-old American overcame a shaky start to the week, where he bogeyed four of his first seven holes en route to a 1-over 73 in the opening round, by posting rounds of 67 and 65 to reach 11 under after 54 holes.

Young trailed McIlroy by eight shots entering the third round, with the Northern Irishman holding a commanding lead at 12 under after rounds of 67-65. McIlroy stumbled late, dropping a shot to share the top spot with Young, who birdied the par-3 16th from 27 feet to tie the lead. Sam Burns sits alone in third at 10 under, while Shane Lowry occupies fourth at 9 under following a hole-in-one during his round.

Jason Day and Justin Rose share fifth place at 8 under, with defending champion Scottie Scheffler tied for seventh at 7 under alongside Haotong Li. Young's surge marked his best performance in 15 career rounds at Augusta National and positioned him for a potential first major victory in his fifth Masters appearance.

The New York native, who turned pro in 2019 after starring at Wake Forest, arrived at Augusta riding high after winning The Players Championship earlier this year, his second PGA Tour title following a 2025 victory at Wyndham. He also posted a T-3 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and T-7 in Los Angeles, bolstering his world ranking to No. 3 behind Scheffler and McIlroy. Young has contended at Augusta before, with top-10 finishes of T-7 in 2023 and T-9 in 2024.

After four bogeys in Round 1, Young steadied himself with a strong back nine in Round 2, birdieing four straight holes from 12 through 15, including a 24-footer at the par-5 15th despite a wayward approach. He played his last 29 holes entering Saturday at 8 under and continued the momentum, reaching 11 under through 14 holes before closing steadily.

McIlroy, seeking to complete the career Grand Slam, saw his six-shot advantage evaporate as challengers like Young, Day and Burns closed in. Scheffler, meanwhile, made a solid run but sits three back heading into Sunday's final round.

The final pairing of Young and McIlroy tees off Sunday afternoon, setting up a dramatic showdown on Augusta National's back nine.
