Eleven teenagers were wounded in a shooting early Sunday morning at Carolyn Crayton Park in Macon, Georgia.

The Bibb County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of gunfire around 12:06 a.m. at the park, which is located about 85 miles southeast of Atlanta. The victims, who were part of a large gathering, included four 18-year-old males, five 17-year-old males and two 18-year-old females. One 18-year-old male and one 17-year-old male remained in critical condition at a local hospital, while the others were listed as stable.

Sheriff David Davis said the gathering was a birthday party for an 18-year-old woman. The group had originally rented an Airbnb in nearby Jones County but was asked to leave after the host became concerned about activities there. The party then moved to the park.

Another group arrived at the park and confronted the partygoers. According to Davis, the two groups exchanged words, brandished firearms and began shooting at each other. Surveillance video captured about 30 seconds of gunfire as people fled. All of the wounded individuals were from the birthday party group, and authorities said none of them appeared to have participated in the shooting.

A 19-year-old male later arrived at the hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and was determined to be a victim of the same incident, bringing the total number of injured to 12 in some reports. Three of the victims were identified as Northeast High School football players. The students attended Central High School, Northeast High School and other local academies.

No arrests have been made, though investigators have identified several persons of interest. Davis noted that the department has not seen this many people shot at one time in recent memory. The sheriff expressed hope that the victims would recover fully and indicated that authorities would pursue any adults who may have provided firearms to the minors involved.
