Apple has changed the name of Lake Ontario to “Lake America” on Apple Maps for users in the United States, following President Donald Trump’s executive order directing the federal government to adopt the new name.

The update appeared Tuesday on the web version of Apple Maps and is also rolling out across Apple’s mapping services. Apple confirmed that U.S. users will see “Lake America,” while users in Canada will continue to see “Lake Ontario.” Users outside the United States and Canada will see both names.

Trump signed the executive order on Aug. 27, directing the Interior Department to update the name in the U.S. Geographic Names Information System and other federal databases. The order applies to federal usage and does not require Canada or international organizations to adopt the new designation.

Google Maps made a similar change on Aug. 29, citing the updated U.S. geographic naming database as the basis for displaying “Lake America” to American users. Apple’s decision brings the two major U.S. mapping platforms into alignment with the federal designation.

The lake, one of the five Great Lakes, sits along the border between New York and the Canadian province of Ontario. Canada has rejected Trump’s renaming effort and continues to use the name Lake Ontario.

The change has also drawn attention to MapQuest, which has refused to adopt the new designation and has continued using the traditional name. The company’s decision has contributed to a surge in downloads of its mapping app.

Trump previously ordered the Gulf of Mexico to be renamed the Gulf of America for U.S. federal purposes, a change that Apple and Google also incorporated into their mapping services.
