Auburn stunned No. 1 Georgia 27-24 at Sanford Stadium on Saturday, handing the Bulldogs a major setback in their national championship pursuit. The Tigers piled up 341 total yards, including 167 rushing yards, to keep pace with Georgia and secure a signature SEC victory. Georgia finished with 438 total yards but could not turn that advantage into a win.
Auburn quarterback Byrum Brown completed 15 of 26 passes for 150 yards and a touchdown while leading the team with 102 rushing yards on 23 carries. Christian Neptune added a 24-yard touchdown pass to Keshaun Singleton, who finished with three catches for 45 yards and a score. Chas Nimrod also caught a touchdown and led Auburn with six receptions for 60 yards.
Georgia quarterback Gunner Stockton completed 22 of 33 passes for 272 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. Backup Ryan Puglisi went 3-for-3 for 55 yards. Craig Dandridge led the Bulldogs with four catches for 88 yards, while Lawson Luckie caught a 24-yard touchdown pass and finished with 41 receiving yards.
Georgia struck first when running back Dwight Phillips Jr. scored on a 15-yard run. Stockton then connected with Luckie for a 24-yard touchdown to give the Bulldogs an early lead. Auburn answered with Neptune’s 24-yard touchdown pass to Singleton, followed by Brown’s nine-yard scoring pass to Nimrod. Alex McPherson added a 49-yard field goal as the Tigers took a 17-14 halftime lead.
Brown extended Auburn’s scoring with a five-yard rushing touchdown in the third quarter. Georgia responded in the fourth, with Peyton Woodring converting a 42-yard field goal before Stockton threw a four-yard touchdown pass to London Humphreys. The Bulldogs finished with 438 total yards, but two interceptions thrown by Stockton proved costly against an Auburn offense that committed no turnovers.
The upset marks a major turning point for Auburn, which entered the game seeking its first win in Athens since 2005. For Georgia, the defeat ends its unbeaten start and raises the pressure on the Bulldogs as they pursue another SEC title and a place in the College Football Playoff.
