State Senator Blake Miguez announced Tuesday that he is entering the race for Louisiana’s 5th Congressional District to replace Representative Julia Letlow, suspending his prior U.S. Senate campaign and redirecting his resources, including $3.6 million in cash on hand, to what he described as a fight to deliver America First representation for Louisianans in Washington.
Miguez said the move follows a seven-month statewide Senate campaign that built momentum, name recognition, and a war chest of nearly $3.6 million, including $1.75 million raised in the final quarter of 2025 from more than 10,000 individual donors. “When I announced my campaign for the U.S. Senate last year, I promised Louisianians I would stand with President Trump and fight for an America First agenda that puts Louisiana families first,” Miguez said. “I remain committed to that promise, and I’m ready to deliver the kind of representation that will support President Trump and help advance the mission to Make America Great Again.”
The announcement comes as Letlow’s seat opens in a district that strongly backs Trump and conservative values, with Miguez positioning himself as the candidate to continue that legacy in Congress. He emphasized grassroots support built during his Senate run, saying, “Together, we built something bigger than a single race. We built a Louisiana America First coalition committed to conservative values and holding Washington accountable. The office may be different, but the fight remains the same.”
Miguez highlighted his background as a small business owner and his support for energy, manufacturing, and family values, saying his campaign is drawing backing from the oil and gas industry and other supporters who want America First representation in Washington. With his Senate campaign suspended, he said he is now fully focused on LA-05 and advancing President Trump’s agenda, as the race is expected to attract strong conservative interest.
