Democratic nominee Keisha Lance Bottoms is drawing criticism after her campaign highlighted opposition from Bowie County to a data center project she alleges is linked to her Republican rival Rick Jackson.
An X post from the Keisha For Georgia account stated that Bowie County residents had a message for Jackson rejecting the project. Critics and online commenters were quick to point out that no Bowie County exists in Georgia. The county is actually located in Texas.
Bowie County is in Texas. How can you post this and expect people to think you can run the state of Georgia?

The gaffe comes amid an ongoing debate in the Georgia governor's race over data center development. Bottoms has called for a temporary statewide pause on new projects, citing concerns over electricity demand, water use, and utility costs. Jackson, a healthcare executive, has said he supports data centers only when local communities approve them and when environmental standards are met.
The race for the state's executive remains highly competitive with early voting underway ahead of the November 3 election. The contest is rated a toss-up or slight Republican lean by forecasters, with Jackson maintaining steady support. Bottoms has positioned her platform around infrastructure and environmental protections, while Jackson has emphasized tax cuts and economic growth.
Polls find Republican Rick Jackson holding a lead over Bottoms. An InsiderAdvantage survey of 800 likely voters conducted October 12-13 found Jackson at 49 percent to Bottoms' 47 percent, with 4 percent undecided. Other recent surveys, including those from Wedgewood Polls and Big Data Poll, similarly show Jackson leading within the margin of error. Aggregates from sources such as PollingSource and RealClearPolitics place Jackson ahead by roughly 1.7 to 2 points on average.
Bottoms later clarified her criticisms, stating that Bowie County was in Texas and doubling down on her scrutiny of Jackson's investments in a proposed data center project near the community.
Jackson's campaign has not issued a statement over the matter as of Saturday.
