A wealthy Russian former mixed martial arts fighter has been sentenced to four years in prison for a violent, jealousy-fueled attack on a woman in London. The case drew international attention after Barron Trump, the youngest son of President Donald Trump, intervened from Florida by alerting British emergency services.
Rumiantsev, the son of a prominent Russian coffee tycoon, faced charges related to actual bodily harm and perverting the course of justice. The attack occurred in January last year, after prosecutors said Rumiantsev became enraged upon learning of the victim’s friendship with Barron Trump. During a FaceTime call initiated by the victim, Rumiantsev reportedly assaulted her in full view of Barron, kicking her and striking her while making abusive statements.
Barron Trump, then 18, spent several minutes attempting to contact British authorities, prompting a recorded 999 call in which he described the attack as an emergency. The victim later credited the call with saving her life.
During sentencing at Snaresbrook Crown Court, the judge criticized Rumiantsev as “given to jealousy” with a volatile temper and described him as “totally unrepentant,” noting that he continued to blame the victim and attempted to interfere with the legal process from prison.
While Rumiantsev was cleared of rape and strangulation charges, the court emphasized the severity of the sustained physical assault. Justice Bennathan also warned that Rumiantsev may face deportation from the United Kingdom following the completion of his sentence.
