A Coast Guard C-37A jet carrying Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin and other senior Department of Homeland Security officials made an emergency landing Wednesday afternoon outside Washington, D.C., after one of its engines failed in flight.

The pilot reported the engine loss to air traffic controllers and completed the landing without further incident. No injuries occurred among those on board.

The C-37A, a military version of the Gulfstream business jet routinely used to transport high-level government officials, was flying in the capital region at the time of the failure. Authorities have not released further details on the cause of the engine problem or the precise landing site. An investigation is expected to begin promptly.

The safe outcome allowed Secretary Mullin and his team to resume their duties after the landing. The incident is the latest in a series of aviation events involving government aircraft in recent years.
