A man in his 30s died after being shot in the chest during a dispute on a Midtown Manhattan subway platform Saturday afternoon.

The shooting occurred around 12:21 p.m. at the 53rd Street and Seventh Avenue station, which serves the B, D, and E lines. Police said an unidentified individual approached the victim on the northbound E train platform, displayed a firearm, and fired once, striking him in the chest.

Emergency responders administered CPR at the scene before rushing the victim to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Authorities confirmed the incident stemmed from an argument involving two or three men and was not random.

"Nothing random between these two individuals," an NYPD spokesperson said at the scene. MTA Chief Security Officer Michael Kemper noted the shooting appeared to result from a dispute between individuals and said the agency was assisting with video retrieval from platform and train cameras.

The suspect fled on foot northbound on Seventh Avenue. Police released surveillance images showing a man in a red tracksuit, black puffer vest, and black facemask or balaclava carrying a backpack. No arrests had been made as of late Saturday.

Train service faced disruptions, with C and D trains bypassing the station and E trains rerouted along the F line between certain stops during the investigation.

The station sits near Broadway theaters and Carnegie Hall in a busy Midtown area. Deadly subway shootings remain uncommon despite high daily ridership, with citywide homicides on pace for historic lows this year.

Police urged anyone with information to come forward.
