Rory McIlroy captured his second consecutive Masters title on Sunday, firing a one-under-par 71 in the final round to finish at 12-under for the tournament, one stroke ahead of Scottie Scheffler.
The 36-year-old from Northern Ireland joined an elite group that includes Jack Nicklaus, Nick Faldo, and Tiger Woods as the only players to win back-to-back green jackets at Augusta National. McIlroy's victory marks his sixth major championship and solidifies his status as one of golf's all-time greats.
McIlroy entered the weekend with a commanding six-shot lead after rounds of 67 and 65, setting a tournament record for the largest 36-hole advantage. However, he stumbled in the third round with a 73, allowing Cameron Young to join him at 11-under entering Sunday.
Scheffler mounted a strong charge in the final round, carding a 68 to reach 11-under, but McIlroy held his nerve down the stretch to secure the win. Tyrrell Hatton, Russell Henley, and Justin Rose finished tied for third at 10-under.
This triumph follows McIlroy's dramatic 2025 Masters victory, where he defeated Rose in a playoff to complete the career Grand Slam as the sixth player in history to achieve the feat. Making his 18th start at Augusta, McIlroy posted 24 birdies, eight bogeys, and two double bogeys over the week, with a driving distance average of 330.4 yards.
The defending champion's resilience shone through after his third-round setback, as he birdied key holes in the final round to pull away. Scheffler, the 2022 and 2024 winner, finished runner-up for the second straight year at the Masters.
McIlroy becomes the first European to win consecutive Masters titles. His performance underscores a dominant run at majors, having now won three of the last four.
