First Lady Melania Trump secured a localized ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine in the occupied city of Oleshky, the White House announced Friday.

The agreement permits humanitarian aid deliveries and preparations for evacuating residents through a safe passageway. It will take effect October 29.

Oleshky, in Ukraine's Kherson region, has been under Russian control since February 2022. Roughly 1,700 to 2,000 civilians remain, mostly elderly residents who need medical care, medicine, food, and clean water. The city faces limited electricity, mined roads, and ongoing attacks.

"The situation in Oleshky is dire," Melania Trump said in a statement. "Without my intervention, the possibility to bring humanitarian aid into the city and to evacuate the elderly would be impossible."

She and a representative worked directly with Russian and Ukrainian leadership as the exclusive intermediary. Non-military civilian teams from both sides will assess needs and coordinate evacuations, with residents free to choose destinations in Russia or Ukraine.

The first lady's office noted she leveraged prior communication channels established through the reunification of 34 Ukrainian children with their families.

Both Russia and Ukraine confirmed the deal. Ukrainian officials reported supply routes blocked and highlighted the urgency for the trapped population. This marks another humanitarian effort by the first lady as the broader conflict in Uklraine has now lasted more than four years.
