The NBA's 2026-27 season began Tuesday with a nationally televised tripleheader on NBC and Peacock that showcased several marquee storylines.

The New York Knicks, fresh off their first title in more than five decades, hosted the Philadelphia 76ers in the primetime slot. The Knicks raised their championship banner before tipoff, but the 76ers spoiled the celebration with a 106-100 victory. LeBron James made his debut with Philadelphia alongside Jaylen Brown, Joel Embiid, and Tyrese Maxey. Maxey led the 76ers with 28 points.

Earlier in the day, the Detroit Pistons defeated the Boston Celtics 121-113 in a rare afternoon opener. Paul George scored 38 points for Detroit in the comeback win.

The nightcap pitted the Oklahoma City Thunder against the San Antonio Spurs in a rematch of last season's Western Conference finals. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Victor Wembanyama renewed their rivalry in San Antonio.

The opening night slate highlighted major offseason changes across the league. James joined the 76ers after his time with the Lakers, while the Knicks entered the year as defending champions led by Jalen Brunson. The Spurs and Thunder entered as the top projected teams in the Western Conference.

Wednesday's schedule features 11 games, including the Golden State Warriors at the Los Angeles Lakers, the Milwaukee Bucks at the Washington Wizards, and the Minnesota Timberwolves at the Miami Heat. All 30 teams are scheduled to play their first game by the end of the week.

The season runs through April 2027, with the playoffs and Finals to follow.
