President Donald Trump said Tuesday that the United States will pause any immediate military action against Iran, opting instead to extend a ceasefire as diplomatic developments continue to unfold.

In a statement posted on Truth Social, Trump said the decision followed a request from Pakistani leadership, including Field Marshal Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, urging the U.S. to hold off on a potential strike while Iranian leadership works toward a unified position.

President Trump indicated that internal divisions within Iran’s government factored into the decision, describing the situation as “seriously fractured.” He said the pause would allow time for Iranian officials to present a proposal that could lead to further negotiations.

Despite halting offensive action, Trump said he has directed the U.S. military to maintain its current posture, including continuing a naval blockade and remaining prepared for potential escalation if talks fail.

The announcement came just hours before the expiration of a previously established two-week ceasefire tied to rising tensions between the United States and Iran. The extension signals a temporary shift toward diplomacy, though officials have emphasized that military options remain on the table.

President Trump said the ceasefire will remain in place until Iran submits a proposal and discussions are resolved, “one way or the other,” leaving open the possibility of renewed conflict depending on the outcome of negotiations.
