In Colorado, a dedicated grassroots organization known as Protect Kids Colorado is mobilizing voters to address critical issues facing the state's youth. The group, a non-partisan coalition focused on child safety and family values, is currently gathering signatures for three proposed ballot initiatives aimed at protecting minors from irreversible medical procedures, combating child sex trafficking, and preserving fairness in girls' sports and private spaces.
The first measure seeks to prohibit irreversible sex change surgeries and procedures on minors, emphasizing the need to shield children from potentially life-altering interventions until they reach adulthood.
The second initiative would raise penalties for the sexual trafficking of minors, elevating the offense from a Class 2 felony to a Class 1 felony to ensure stronger consequences for predators.
The third proposal aims to maintain biological distinctions in school sports and private facilities by preventing males from competing in girls' athletic programs and accessing female-only spaces, thereby promoting safety and equality for young women.
To qualify these initiatives for the November 2026 ballot, Protect Kids Colorado must collect at least 124,238 valid signatures, a threshold based on 5% of the votes cast in the last secretary of state election. The group's signature drive, which began in September 2025, is set to conclude in mid-February 2026.
Efforts to gather signatures have not been without challenges. In Fort Collins, a video captured trans activists confronting women collecting petitions, an incident that has since gone viral on social media.
In the footage, one activist states that "every person who peddles this type of sh*t should be uncomfortable," justifying their actions by claiming the signature gatherers were intimidating trans and queer individuals.
Additionally, reports indicate a man approached the table and forcefully slammed it, further attempting to intimidate the volunteers. Despite these disruptions, Protect Kids Colorado continues its push to empower voters on these vital child protection matters.
