A U.S. Secret Service agent assigned to protect former First Lady Jill Biden accidentally shot himself at Philadelphia International Airport Friday morning, authorities said. Jill Biden was not in the area at the time of the incident.

Police reported that the agent suffered a “negligent discharge” just before 8:45 a.m. while attempting to get into the back of an SUV near Pennsylvania Tower outside Terminal C. The agent was struck in the leg and transported to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in stable condition. No one else was injured, and airport operations continued without interruption.

According to KYW-TV, witnesses said the gun went off accidentally as the agent handled the unmarked Chevrolet SUV. Authorities remained at the scene for hours investigating the incident.

“The Secret Service's Office of Professional Responsibility will be reviewing the facts and circumstances of this incident,” a spokesperson said in a statement.

The incident comes amid broader attention on the former first lady, whose ex-husband, William Stevenson, 77, was recently indicted in the February murder of his second wife, Linda Stevenson, 64. William Stevenson had known Joe Biden personally but later supported President Trump.
