Tennessee’s defense rose to the occasion against an Alabama offense that had averaged more than 44 points per game entering the contest. The Crimson Tide managed just 10 points against the Volunteers, well below its season scoring average.
Tennessee controlled the game on the ground, finishing with 313 total yards to Alabama’s 149. The Volunteers produced 116 rushing yards and 197 passing yards, while holding the Crimson Tide to just 60 rushing yards and 89 passing yards. Tennessee also held a 31:20 advantage in time of possession, keeping Alabama’s offense off the field for extended stretches.
