Three men were killed and four other people were wounded in a shooting at an after-hours venue operating as a strip club in a home on Detroit's west side Sunday morning.

Detroit Police Chief Todd Bettison said officers responded to a 911 call at approximately 7:22 a.m. after receiving a ShotSpotter alert. They found three men suffering fatal gunshot wounds at the location near Prest and Eaton streets. Four additional victims, two men and two women in their 20s and 30s, were taken to hospitals in private vehicles with non-life-threatening injuries. The three men who died were all over the age of 30.

Bettison described the shooting as the result of a fight. "A fight occurred, an altercation occurred and as a result, individuals decided to settle it with gun violence," he said during a news conference. The chief noted that the address was already known to police, with seven calls for service there since the beginning of the year, and that another investigation into the location was underway. He said there is no ongoing threat to the public.

The venue was described as an illegal after-hours operation in a residential area. Bettison said it featured dancing-type activities similar to a strip club. Detroit Mayor Mary Sheffield stated that the city would work to crack down on such illegal operations, whether in homes or businesses.

Investigators have developed leads but have not announced any arrests. The victims have not been publicly identified pending notification of family members. Police arrived at the scene within minutes of the call.

The incident highlights ongoing challenges with violence at unregulated late-night venues in Detroit. Authorities continue to investigate the shooting.
