President Donald Trump held a campaign rally Tuesday night at Pitt-Greenville Airport in Greenville, North Carolina, as part of his effort to boost Republican prospects in the upcoming midterm elections.
The event marked Trump's second visit to the state in a month. He urged voters to support Republican Michael Whatley in the Senate race against former Democratic Governor Roy Cooper. Early voting in North Carolina is already underway and continues through October 31, with Election Day set for November 3.
Trump highlighted his administration's record and predicted strong results despite polling challenges. He told the crowd that Republicans would defy expectations, noting the party's strong spirit and past success in the state. The president also mentioned plans for defense investments in semiconductor production in North Carolina and repeated a promise of $5,000 payments to U.S. adults if Republicans hold Congress.
The North Carolina Senate contest is viewed as competitive. Whatley faces an uphill battle against Cooper, who has led in polls. Retiring Republican Sen. Thom Tillis has publicly warned of potential Republican losses in November. Outside spending has shifted in some races, though Trump continues to back Whatley directly.
Trump has conducted multiple rallies in recent days across states he won in 2024. Supporters gathered at the airport venue for the evening speech, which focused on turning out voters for Republican candidates in Congress and state races.
The midterms will determine control of the House and Senate. North Carolina has not elected a Democratic senator since 2008, but Democrats see opportunities this cycle amid voter concerns over the economy and other issues.
