President Donald Trump said Friday that Michael Cohen, his former personal attorney and a key prosecution witness in his New York criminal case, has fully recanted his testimony and claimed he was pressured and coerced into providing statements against Trump.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump thanked Cohen for what he described as an act of “Wisdom and Courage” and said the former attorney’s actions were a “Great Credit” to the justice system in New York City and New York state.

Trump said Cohen was the prosecution’s “Star Witness” in the cases brought by Bragg and James and argued that Cohen’s alleged recantation undermines the proceedings against him.

“I am pleased to report that Michael Cohen, the Prosecution’s Star Witness and, in actuality, only Witness in the New York State Attorney General and Manhattan DA Witch Hunt Cases brought against me, has just fully RECANTED his testimony,” Trump wrote. “He was ‘pressured’ and ‘coerced’ to say things that were not true.”

Trump also called on New York officials to immediately terminate and dismiss any remaining portions of the cases, claiming Cohen now says that “everything” Bragg and James did was “WRONG and UNLAWFUL.”

Cohen previously accused prosecutors of pressuring him during their investigations of Trump. In January, he wrote that he felt “pressured and coerced” to provide information and testimony that would satisfy prosecutors’ efforts to build cases against Trump.

The development follows a remarkable reconciliation between Trump and Cohen. The two had a highly public falling-out after Cohen became a central witness in the Manhattan criminal prosecution. In August, however, Trump appeared on Cohen’s radio program and praised him, saying Cohen had been pressured into testifying against him.

Cohen’s testimony was central to the 2024 Manhattan case that resulted in Trump being convicted on 34 counts of falsifying business records related to a payment made to Stormy Daniels during the 2016 presidential campaign.

However, it remains unclear whether Cohen has formally recanted his courtroom testimony through a legal filing or other proceeding. Current reports have characterized the recantation primarily through Trump’s statements and Cohen’s earlier public claims about feeling pressured. The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office had not immediately responded to requests for comment Friday.

Trump is now calling for the remaining legal proceedings against him to be terminated, arguing that Cohen’s changed position warrants a fresh examination of the cases.
