President Donald Trump said Sunday that he has been in contact with both Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelenskyy as part of ongoing efforts to resolve the war in Ukraine.
Speaking in a televised interview, Trump said he has had “good conversations” with both leaders, though he declined to provide details or timelines regarding the discussions.
“I do have conversations with him, and I do have conversations with President Zelenskyy,” Trump said. “Good conversations.”
The president described the ongoing conflict as deeply entrenched, pointing to personal tensions between the Russian and Ukrainian leaders as a major obstacle to negotiations.
“The hatred between President Putin and President Zelenskyy is ridiculous,” Trump said, adding that such hostility complicates efforts to end the war.
The war began with Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 and has continued through Trump’s second term, despite his earlier pledge to bring the conflict to an end.
Trump indicated that his administration remains engaged in diplomatic efforts, expressing confidence that a resolution is possible, though he did not outline specific steps or conditions for a potential agreement.
The conflict has remained a central issue in global geopolitics, with ongoing fighting, economic disruptions, and continued international involvement shaping the broader landscape as negotiations remain uncertain.
