UFO researcher Scott C. Waring is claiming that an image captured by NASA’s Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) on October 3 shows a massive alien spacecraft traveling near the Sun. Waring describes the object as a giant “UFO mothership,” though no evidence has confirmed that it is an extraterrestrial craft.

The image shows a white, cylinder-shaped object against the dark background of space, near the sun’s outer atmosphere. SOHO was observing coronal streamers, structures formed by streams of material extending outward from the sun, when the object appeared in the frame.

According to Waring, examining a negative version of the image reveals additional details about the alleged spacecraft. He estimates that it measures approximately 2.5 miles long and half a mile wide, and claims it was moving at nearly the speed of light.

Waring further argues that the image shows the supposed mothership using a tractor beam to pull three smaller, orb-shaped objects along its path. He has described the image as “100 percent proof” that alien spacecraft regularly travel through the solar system. Those assertions remain unverified, and the image alone does not establish that the objects are spacecraft or extraterrestrial in origin.

NASA has not publicly commented on the specific SOHO image or Waring’s interpretation. The agency has consistently stated that it has no definitive evidence of extraterrestrial life and has not confirmed that unidentified anomalous phenomena are evidence of alien technology. Unusual images from space observatories can also result from imaging artifacts or other non-extraterrestrial explanations.

Waring has also compared the alleged mothership with 3I/ATLAS, an interstellar object identified in July 2025 by the Asteroid Terrestrial-impact Last Alert System (ATLAS) telescope network. He has speculated that the object near the Sun could be 3I/ATLAS returning, but the supplied report provides no evidence establishing a connection between the two objects.

For now, the claims rest on Waring’s interpretation of the SOHO image rather than a verified identification by NASA or independent scientific confirmation.
