Walmart is combining its Walmart+ and Sam’s Club Plus memberships into a single $120 annual package, offering customers access to both programs for nearly $100 less than purchasing them separately. The new deal became available Oct. 20 as the retailer looks to attract budget-conscious shoppers facing higher costs for everyday necessities.

Walmart CEO John Furner announced the offer in his first broadcast interview since taking the company’s top position, speaking with ABC News’ Rebecca Jarvis on “Good Morning America.” Furner said the combined membership brings together benefits from both programs while giving customers more opportunities to save on groceries, fuel, and other purchases.

The two memberships would normally cost a combined $218 annually. Under the new $120 package, customers gain access to Sam’s Club warehouse stores, free delivery on eligible orders, fuel discounts and a choice of Peacock or Paramount+ streaming subscriptions.

Members can also save 10 cents per gallon at more than 17,000 participating gas stations, a benefit Furner highlighted as especially valuable while fuel costs remain a burden for families.

The announcement comes as inflation continues to pressure American consumers. Government data cited in the report showed prices rose 3.7% in September compared with the same month a year earlier, while gasoline prices increased 34.2% over that period.

Furner said Walmart remains focused on keeping prices as low as possible despite those pressures. He pointed to the company’s price rollback program, which offered more than 7,000 reduced-price items at the end of its first quarter before expanding to approximately 11,000 by the end of the second quarter.

Still, the CEO acknowledged that some shoppers have begun feeling financial strain and changing their spending habits after several quarters of what Walmart described as a resilient consumer environment.

When asked whether Walmart could continue lowering prices as costs rise, Furner said the company would keep looking for ways to protect shoppers. He also acknowledged that retailers can adjust prices in response to commodity costs, but emphasized that the new membership package was an opportunity to deliver savings.

The combined plan includes special terms for existing customers. Current Walmart+ annual members can upgrade to the package for an additional $22 per year, while Sam’s Club Plus members can activate Walmart+ at no additional cost. The membership requires an annual payment, with no monthly payment option or free trial.

Furner also addressed concerns about the impact of new technology on Walmart’s workforce. Asked whether the company might employ fewer workers in five years because of Super Intelligence and other technological advances, he described the technology as a tool to help employees perform their jobs more effectively.

Walmart’s new offer represents an effort to strengthen customer loyalty by combining shopping, delivery, fuel, and entertainment benefits in one package. For households weighing recurring expenses, the value will depend on how frequently they use the services and whether the combined plan replaces memberships they already pay for separately.
