Jimmy Kimmel’s future at ABC is facing serious questions after a report claimed his late-night show would end in 2027, following years of declining viewership and controversy surrounding his political commentary. ABC, however, is disputing the report and says no official decision has been made.

“Jimmy Kimmel Live!” is currently scheduled to continue through at least May 2027 under the one-year contract extension Kimmel signed with ABC in December 2025. Page Six reported Tuesday that ABC would not renew Kimmel’s contract after the upcoming 24th season, citing an unnamed source familiar with the situation.

ABC subsequently pushed back on the report. An ABC Entertainment spokesperson told Entertainment Weekly that the information was “inaccurate” and said reports about the future of the program were “purely speculative.”

The speculation comes after a turbulent period for Kimmel, whose late-night program has frequently centered on President Donald Trump and other political figures. Kimmel has also drawn criticism from conservatives over comments involving First Lady Melania Trump and his remarks following the September 2025 assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

Kimmel’s comments about Kirk led ABC to temporarily suspend “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” last year. The controversy also drew criticism from Trump and then-Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Carr, while the debate expanded into questions over free speech and political pressure on broadcasters. ABC ultimately reinstated the program.

The show has also faced challenges in the late-night television market, where audiences and advertising revenue have declined across the industry. Kimmel ranked behind other late-night programs in recent ratings, and his political focus has made the program a frequent target of criticism from conservatives. A March ratings report cited by Fox News showed “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” averaging about 2.17 million viewers, placing it behind both “Gutfeld!” and “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” that month.

Kimmel’s current contract structure has also fueled speculation about his future. Rather than receiving the traditional multiyear renewal, he received only a one-year extension in 2025. Kimmel has previously acknowledged that he and his wife, executive producer Molly McNearney, have discussed his eventual retirement.

For now, however, ABC has not confirmed whether “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” will end in 2027. The show is currently set to return for its 24th season with Kimmel’s long-term future at the network remaining dubious.
