Barry Christian, a 54-year-old Republican candidate for Oklahoma Senate District 38, was reported missing after he was last seen on Tuesday, April 28, in Sayre, Oklahoma. Authorities discovered his abandoned charcoal gray 2024 Ram pickup in a rural area south of Erick on Thursday afternoon, prompting an intensified search by local and state law enforcement.
Christian, who stands about 6 feet tall, weighs 230 pounds, and has blue eyes and gray hair, failed to appear for a scheduled meeting on Tuesday, leading associates to report him missing the following day. The Beckham County Sheriff's Office and Sayre Police Department initiated the search, with assistance from the Harmon County Sheriff's Office and later the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.
The OSBI processed the scene where the truck was found, but investigators have not released details on potential foul play or the circumstances of the vehicle's abandonment. Christian filed to run in the June 16 Republican primary for Senate District 38, which includes Beckham, Greer, Harmon, and Jackson counties in southwest Oklahoma. He is competing against Joe Buchanan and Rick Vernon ahead of the November 3 general election.
As of late Thursday, no trace of Christian had been located despite the vehicle's discovery just two days after his last known sighting. Law enforcement continues efforts in the rural region and has asked the public to contact the Sayre Police Department at 580-928-2122 with any information on his whereabouts.
