Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani was hospitalized in critical but stable condition at a Florida hospital on Sunday, according to a statement from his spokesman.
The 81-year-old Giuliani, known as "America's Mayor" for his leadership after the 9/11 attacks, remains under medical care as details about the cause of his hospitalization emerge slowly. His spokesman released the following update: "Mayor Rudy Giuliani is currently in the hospital, where he remains in critical but stable condition. Mayor Giuliani is a fighter who has faced every challenge in his life with unwavering strength, and he's fighting with that same level of strength as we speak. We do ask that you join us in prayer for America's Mayor, Rudy Giuliani."
Another spokesman, Ted Goodman, echoed the assessment, noting Giuliani "remains in critical but stable condition." The specific hospital and precise reason for admission have not been disclosed publicly at this time.
Giuliani, who served as mayor from 1994 to 2001 and later advised former President Donald Trump on legal matters, has faced health challenges before. In 2000, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer during a routine exam and underwent successful treatment, including radiation therapy and brachytherapy. Last year, in August 2025, he suffered a fractured thoracic vertebra and other injuries in a car crash in New Hampshire after stopping to aid a woman in a domestic violence incident. He was released from the hospital days later and recovered well.
Reactions poured in quickly Sunday evening. Trump posted on Truth Social: "Our fabulous Rudy Giuliani, a True Warrior, and the Best Mayor in the History of New York City, BY FAR, has been hospitalized, and is in critical condition. What a tragedy that he was treated so badly by the Radical Left Lunatics, Democrats ALL, AND HE WAS RIGHT ABOUT EVERYTHING! They cheated in the Elections, fabricated hundreds of stories, did everything possible to destroy our Nation, and now, look at Rudy. So sad!"

Current New York City Mayor Eric Adams offered bipartisan support, transcending political divides. "We may not always agree politically, but this moment rises above politics," Adams said. "On behalf of Eric Adams, we are wishing strength, good health, and a full recovery to Rudy Giuliani, a man who devoted his life to public service." He highlighted Giuliani's role as a federal prosecutor and post-9/11 leader.
Giuliani has resided in Florida in recent years, aligning with his continued involvement in conservative circles. As of late Sunday evening, no further updates on his prognosis were available, but his team emphasized his resilience amid past trials. The public has been asked to keep him in their prayers during this uncertain time.
