President Donald Trump endorsed North Carolina state Representative Jennifer Balkcom as the Republican nominee for the state's 11th Congressional District on Tuesday.

Trump made the announcement on Truth Social, stating, "It is my Great Honor to endorse America First Patriot, Jennifer Balkcom, who is running to represent the wonderful people of North Carolina’s 11th Congressional District!" Balkcom, a mortgage loan officer and member of the state House representing the 117th district in Henderson County, responded with gratitude on X, expressing her commitment to rebuilding western North Carolina after Hurricane Helene and working with the Trump administration.

The endorsement comes after Rep. Chuck Edwards, R-N.C., who had been endorsed by Trump for re-election, announced on Aug. 5 that he would not seek a third term. Edwards' withdrawal followed a House Ethics Committee report recommending his censure for inappropriate conduct toward two young female staffers, including lavish gifts and effusive personal notes. The committee found substantial reason to believe Edwards violated House rules related to sexual harassment and hostile workplaces.

Republicans in the district selected Balkcom as the replacement nominee on Aug. 10 during a meeting of the 11th Congressional District Republican Executive Committee in Asheville. She won on the first ballot after other potential candidates declined to run. Balkcom will face Democrat Jamie Ager in the November general election.

The 11th District covers much of western North Carolina, an area that has seen significant recovery efforts following recent natural disasters. Balkcom has emphasized preserving mountain values and supporting Trump's agenda in Congress.
