The United States Mint is releasing the 2026 Semiquincentennial President Donald J. Trump $1 Coin, marking the first time a sitting president has been featured on a U.S. circulating dollar coin.
The Mint is making the coins available in 25-coin rolls and 100-coin bags beginning Wednesday, Sept. 2. The coins are being sold directly through the U.S. Mint and were produced at the Philadelphia Mint with a circulating finish.
The coin was authorized as part of the nation's 250th anniversary, or Semiquincentennial, celebrations. It features a portrait of Trump on the obverse, along with the inscriptions “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and “1776 ~ 2026.”
The reverse features the Presidential Seal, including the eagle, olive branch, arrows, and shield. The shield includes the number “250” to commemorate America’s 250th anniversary, along with “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “ONE DOLLAR.”
The Mint has also produced 250,000 special Trump $1 coins struck on July 4 with a “July 4th” privy mark. Those coins have been randomly placed among the rolls and bags being sold to collectors, making them a potentially sought-after variation of the new issue.
Although the coins are now available for purchase, the Mint says the Trump $1 coin will not be released into general circulation until fall 2026. Once distributed, the coins will be legal tender and could eventually appear in everyday cash transactions.
The coin is part of a broader series of special 2026 U.S. coinage commemorating the 250th anniversary of American independence. The Mint is issuing several redesigned circulating coins and special collectible products throughout the year to mark the occasion.
