The Chicago Bears acquired All-Pro defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons from the Tennessee Titans on Thursday in a blockbuster trade that signals the team's intent to contend for a Super Bowl this season.

The deal sends the Bears' 2027 and 2028 first-round picks along with a 2027 fourth-round pick to Tennessee in exchange for Simmons and a 2028 fifth-round selection. The transaction remains pending a physical.

Simmons, 29, is under contract through the 2030 season after signing a three-year, $105.8 million extension with the Titans this past summer. The deal includes $100 million guaranteed and carries the highest average annual salary for a defensive tackle in NFL history at $35.27 million.

This season, Simmons has recorded four sacks and 38 tackles in seven starts for the Titans, who enter the weekend at 1-6. He earned first-team All-Pro honors in 2025 after posting career highs of 11 sacks, 17 tackles for loss, and 21 quarterback hits.

A first-round pick by Tennessee in 2019, Simmons has started 104 of 106 career games and tallied 46.5 sacks, 414 tackles, and 72 tackles for loss. He is a four-time Pro Bowl selection.

The Bears, who stand at 5-2 and trail only the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC North, have bolstered an already stout defense that ranks among the league's best in several categories. The addition of Simmons addresses a need for elite interior pressure alongside players such as Montez Sweat and Grady Jarrett.

Titans controlling owner Amy Adams Strunk praised Simmons in a statement, noting his impact on and off the field in Nashville and expressing gratitude for his contributions to the franchise and community.

Bears general manager Ryan Poles expressed excitement about adding Simmons and his family to the organization. The move comes amid a week of significant NFL transactions and positions Chicago to push for a title in the second half of the regular season.
