Attorney General Todd Blanche said Sunday that he supports U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro and that President Trump does as well, even as the president has expressed frustration over her office's decision to drop a vandalism case tied to the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.

Blanche made the comments during an appearance on NBC's "Meet the Press." He distinguished between backing Pirro and acknowledging Trump's reaction to the dropped case. "I absolutely support U.S. Attorney Pirro, as does President Trump," Blanche said. "Now, that’s different than whether the president is extraordinarily frustrated at what happened in that case."

The case involved charges against several individuals, including former Olympian David Hearn, for alleged damage to the liner of the Reflecting Pool. Pirro's office moved to dismiss the charges after determining that evidence showed the damage predated the alleged incidents. Trump publicly criticized the decision, calling it wrong and expressing displeasure with how the matter was handled.

Blanche noted that he could not fault the president for his frustration, pointing to reports of potential vandalism at national monuments. He emphasized that Pirro has performed well overall in her role as the top federal prosecutor in Washington, D.C.

The remarks come amid ongoing discussions within the administration about the handling of cases involving damage to federal property. Blanche, a former personal attorney to Trump who was recently confirmed as attorney general, has previously deferred questions about Pirro's future to the president while praising her work.

Trump has the authority to remove U.S. attorneys, though no decision on Pirro's position has been announced.
