Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts has been ruled out of Sunday's game against the Carolina Panthers due to a superficial blood clot in his right calf.

The team released a detailed statement Thursday outlining the timeline of the injury. Hurts first sought treatment for his calf on October 8 after reporting he had been cleated during the Eagles' Week 4 loss to the Los Angeles Rams on October 4. He practiced fully that week and was added to the injury report ahead of the team's trip to London.

An ultrasound performed on October 11 in London after the team's flight and walkthrough revealed the superficial blood clot. Medical staff and doctors cleared Hurts to play in the game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, emphasizing the importance of activity and mobility. He played without limitation, completing 21 of 40 passes for 220 yards and one touchdown in a 19-17 loss.

A follow-up ultrasound on Wednesday night in Philadelphia showed movement in the small blood clot. The Eagles said Hurts will sit out Sunday's contest as they determine the appropriate course of treatment, with his health and safety as the top priority.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that Hurts cannot return until the situation is resolved and is out indefinitely.

The Eagles will turn to backup quarterback Tanner McKee, who has made two NFL starts, for the game against the Panthers. Rookie Cole Payton is also on the roster.

Hurts, a three-time Pro Bowler, has thrown for 933 yards, eight touchdowns, and three interceptions through five games this season, with career-low completion percentage and passer rating figures.
