Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei warned the United States and Israel on Saturday against returning to war, stating that any new military or terrorist attacks would draw an immediate, impactful, and geographically unrestricted response from Iranian forces.
In a statement posted on his official website, Khamenei said that if enemies launch attacks again, Iran's armed forces and nation would determine the time and conditions for ending the conflict. He directed commanders to prepare for maximum deterrence and ordered an update to Iran's target list to include all tangible and intangible assets.
The remarks came as mediators, including a Qatari delegation, sought to prevent a resumption of fighting following threats from Washington and Tel Aviv. Vice President JD Vance recently sent a letter to Iranian security chief Mohsen Rezaei in an effort to revive negotiations.
Iranian army spokesman Mohammad Akraminia echoed the warning earlier in the day, stating that any new US attack under pressure from Israel would spread the war across a wider geographical area. The comments align with broader rhetoric from Tehran after months of conflict that began with US-Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28.
Khamenei, who succeeded his father Ayatollah Ali Khamenei after the elder leader's death in the initial strikes, has not appeared publicly since assuming the role. The statement followed a reported meeting with senior military commanders, including armed forces chief of staff Ali Abdollahi, army chief Amir Hatami, and Revolutionary Guards commander Ahmad Vahidi.
A ceasefire reached in April has not produced lasting peace, and recent reports indicate growing risks of renewed hostilities. Iranian officials have emphasized that the country seeks to avoid escalation but will respond forcefully to any aggression.
The latest warnings coincide with ongoing diplomatic efforts involving Qatar and Pakistan to stabilize the region amid concerns over energy supplies and broader instability in West Asia.
