Elon Musk has emerged as the largest known political donor in the 2026 midterm election cycle after funneling roughly $366 million into federal campaigns and groups.

The spending, which includes more than $276 million since July, surpasses the approximately $290 million Musk contributed during the 2024 presidential race. The figures come ahead of a Federal Election Commission filing deadline on Thursday.

Musk's contributions have primarily supported Republican efforts to maintain majorities in the House and Senate. His largest single outlay was $158 million to the Senate Leadership Fund, a super PAC aligned with Senate Republicans.

Additional major donations include more than $76 million to America PAC, the organization Musk founded, along with $20 million to the Congressional Leadership Fund, $10 million to the Republican Governors Association, and $10 million to Lone Star Liberty PAC, which backs Texas Republican Senate candidate Ken Paxton.

Musk also directed $2 million to the Republican Attorneys General Association. The rapid pace of recent giving ranks among the largest individual political expenditures in recent cycles.

Republicans currently hold narrow majorities in both chambers of Congress, and competitive races in states such as Texas remain focal points for the remaining weeks before Election Day. Musk's support has targeted voter outreach and advertising in key battlegrounds.

The total reflects Musk's continued involvement in Republican-aligned causes following his earlier backing of President Donald Trump. Federal records show the donations were made through super PACs and other political committees.
