Professional golfer Phil Mickelson recently checked himself into an addiction treatment facility while dealing with personal and family issues, according to his representative, and has since completed the treatment.
Mickelson voluntarily sought treatment recently for what his representative described as “family trauma and addiction.” He has already left the facility, according to his representatives.
“Phil was seeking treatment for family trauma and addiction,” a representative said in a statement.
The treatment comes after Mickelson’s representatives said in June that the golfer was dealing with a private family health matter and needed to focus on becoming “the husband, father, and man his family deserves.”
Mickelson has previously spoken publicly about his struggles with gambling addiction. In 2023, he acknowledged that his gambling had progressed beyond what he considered manageable and said he had sought professional help for years. He also said the addiction had negatively affected his personal life.
The 56-year-old golfer has faced additional scrutiny in recent months following separate allegations of sexual misconduct. Golf Digest reported in June that a woman accused Mickelson of making “nonconsensual and inappropriate physical contact” with her while she was working at a San Diego golf course.
Ashley Perez, the former wife of professional golfer Pat Perez, later alleged that Mickelson showed her an explicit photograph of himself in 2015 and propositioned her while she was married. Mickelson has pushed back against the allegations, calling the reporting a “drive-by shooting.”
Mickelson’s wife, Amy, publicly supported her husband after the allegations emerged, although she was later photographed without her wedding ring.
Mickelson’s decision to seek treatment adds another development to a difficult period for the longtime professional golfer, who has faced renewed attention over his personal struggles and conduct away from the course.
