Rhode Island has approved extended hours for home cannabis deliveries, allowing licensed dispensaries to deliver marijuana to customers as late as 11 p.m. under a change approved by the state’s Cannabis Control Commission on Friday, Oct. 23.

The commission voted 2-1 to expand the permitted delivery window from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., according to local reporting. The change gives licensed retailers an additional four hours each day to make deliveries.

Commissioner Layi Oduyingbo supported the extension, arguing that longer delivery hours would help the state’s legal cannabis industry expand. Commission member Robert Jacquard opposed the proposal, warning that late-night deliveries could increase the risk of violence.

Commission Chair Michelle Reddish said the commission had received multiple requests from licensed businesses seeking permission to deliver earlier in the morning and later in the evening.

The change follows an earlier rejection of a similar proposal in September, when commissioners voted against extending delivery hours but indicated they were willing to revisit the issue.

Rhode Island regulations require cannabis deliveries to be handled by licensed retailers that have received commission approval. Customers must meet applicable age or medical-patient requirements and present valid identification at delivery.

The reported vote approves the extended schedule, although the available reporting does not clearly establish when the revised hours formally take effect or whether additional rulemaking steps are required.
