U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar will hold talks in Mumbai on October 20, India’s foreign ministry announced Friday.
Foreign ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed the planned meeting during a briefing with reporters, saying the discussions would cover several key areas of cooperation between the two countries.
The agenda is expected to include energy, trade and investment, defense, and critical and emerging technologies. The talks offer both governments an opportunity to discuss shared economic and security priorities and explore ways to expand cooperation in strategically important industries.
Energy and trade are expected to be significant topics as the United States and India work to strengthen commercial ties. Defense cooperation and emerging technologies also remain important areas for the two countries as they seek to advance their respective economic and national security interests.
The meeting comes amid broader efforts by Washington and New Delhi to maintain engagement across economic, technological, and defense issues. The October 20 discussions could provide an opportunity for officials to address outstanding concerns while identifying areas for further collaboration.
Jaiswal did not provide additional details about specific agreements expected from the meeting. No formal outcomes were announced ahead of the talks.
