A woman entered the property of former Vice President Kamala Harris in Malibu, California, on Friday night but was stopped by private security before reaching the home.

Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies responded to a suspicious person call at the residence around 10:30 p.m. Friday. Upon arrival, deputies contacted the private security detail on the property. The individual was outside the property, received a warning, and left voluntarily without incident.

A trespassing report was filed, but no arrests were made. The Malibu/Lost Hills station said it would increase patrols in the area as a precaution.

Harris and her husband, Doug Emhoff, were not at the property during the incident. Spokesperson Eduardo Negrón said security personnel stopped the individual who illegally entered the couple’s property before the person reached the home. He added that Harris and Emhoff are grateful to the security and law enforcement personnel who responded swiftly.

The incident occurred amid ongoing questions about Harris’s security arrangements. Former vice presidents typically receive six months of Secret Service protection after leaving office. President Joe Biden had extended that protection, but President Donald Trump revoked the extension last August.

As Harris no longer has a federal Secret Service detail, private security handled the response to the trespasser.
