President Donald Trump described Ukraine's resumption of strikes on Russian oil refineries as a disgrace in an interview with Newsmax that aired Thursday.

Trump said the attacks elevate world oil prices and harm global energy supplies. "All he's doing is making the world oil price higher. Well, I think that's a disgrace," he stated after Ukraine hit a Rosneft refinery southeast of Moscow.

The president noted that Ukraine has other targets available but chose diesel production facilities. "There are a lot of targets you can hit, but when you shoot at diesel refineries where you make, you know, diesel oil, and we need that, and the world needs that, then he's not doing a good service for the world," Trump added.

Ukraine struck the facility after President Volodymyr Zelensky declared an end to a pause on such attacks. Trump had announced an energy ceasefire covering facilities on both sides, but Russia continued strikes on Ukrainian power infrastructure.

Trump also renewed criticism of Zelensky. "I'm not a big fan of Zelenskiy," he said. "I think they actually both would like to see it end, but I think I find Zelenskiy to be more difficult to deal with than Putin."

The remarks come as Trump has pursued deals to import Russian diesel to ease U.S. fuel prices ahead of midterm elections. Ukraine's actions have contributed to tighter global diesel markets already strained by other conflicts.

Zelensky met with European leaders in Brussels on Friday to seek support amid the tensions. European officials have expressed concern over the U.S. approach to Russian energy exports.

Trump's comments underscore his priority on stabilizing energy costs for American consumers and farmers who rely on diesel. The strikes have reduced Russian refining capacity significantly in recent months.

Russia responded to the latest Ukrainian attack with its own missile and drone barrages on Ukrainian energy sites, leaving hundreds of thousands without power.

The developments highlight ongoing challenges in reaching a broader ceasefire despite Trump's direct engagement with both sides.
