President Donald Trump declared Monday that Iran is “officially a Failed Nation,” asserting the Islamic Republic is sustained only by “FAKE NEWS” from the U.S. media while its military, economy, and leadership disintegrate.
“IRAN IS DEAD!” Trump wrote on Truth Social. He claimed Iran has no navy, no air force, no functioning currency, is not paying its soldiers or police, faces 300 percent inflation, and has leadership “in total disarray and incapable of properly representing the country.” Trump also accused Tehran of killing more than 100,000 protesters and urged that Iranian leaders be prosecuted for “war crimes against humanity.”
The remarks came amid renewed military tensions. Iran launched ballistic missiles toward a U.S. military base in Jordan on Monday in claimed retaliation for an American strike on Larak Island near the Strait of Hormuz. Jordanian officials reported eight Iranian missiles were intercepted. A U.S. official said there were no strikes on American bases and no casualties or damage.
U.S. Central Command stated the Larak operation targeted Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces preparing to lay mines in the Strait of Hormuz and rejected Tehran’s description of the strike as an “act of aggression.” CENTCOM called the action “limited, precise” and necessary to eliminate an imminent threat to commercial shipping.
Trump has repeatedly described Iran as severely weakened after months of conflict, previously stating the country had lost its navy and air force, the IRGC had been “decimated,” and the United States controlled the Strait of Hormuz.
The administration has also escalated economic pressure. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent last week announced “Operation Economic Outcast,” a sanctions campaign aimed at cutting off Iran’s remaining revenue sources and warning foreign governments and companies against providing Tehran an economic lifeline.
