President Donald Trump endorsed Catalina Lauf on Thursday for the Republican primary in Florida's 19th Congressional District.
In a statement posted on social media, Trump described Lauf as an "America First Patriot" who served as a presidential appointee at the U.S. Department of Commerce during his first administration. He noted that she has been with the movement "from the beginning" and praised her courage and wisdom to deliver results.
Trump listed the priorities Lauf would advance as Congresswoman, including growing the economy, cutting taxes and regulations, promoting products made in the U.S.A., unleashing American energy dominance, securing the border, stopping migrant crime, supporting the military and veterans, advancing election integrity, and defending the Second Amendment.
Lauf previously worked at Uber before her role in the Trump administration. She is running on a platform focused on border security, economic deregulation, and legal immigration.
The endorsement adds to support Lauf has received from Florida Republican lawmakers, including Reps. Greg Steube and Kat Cammack. Sen. Jim Banks of Indiana and Rep. Anna Paulina Luna have also backed her, along with a super PAC associated with Sen. Rand Paul.
Florida's 19th District is a strongly Republican seat that Trump carried by a wide margin in the last presidential election. The primary is scheduled for August 18.
