President Donald Trump has nominated Kimberly Greenwood, the wife of country singer and longtime Trump supporter Lee Greenwood, to serve as the next U.S. ambassador to Barbados and several Eastern Caribbean nations.

The nomination includes responsibility for Barbados as well as Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The ambassador position has been vacant, according to the American Foreign Service Association’s ambassador tracker.

Greenwood has worked with Trump for approximately 18 years through her role directing state pageants under the Miss Universe Organization, according to the Associated Press. Her husband, Lee Greenwood, is best known for the patriotic song “God Bless the USA,” which has frequently been played at Trump political events. The couple has also collaborated on a patriotic Bible.

In a statement on X following the nomination, Kimberly Greenwood said she was “profoundly honored and humbled” by the president's confidence and described representing the United States as one of the greatest honors of her life.

Her nomination will join the nomination of Rep. Wesley Hunt and go through the U.S. Senate confirmation process before she can formally assume the ambassadorial post. The GOP currently holds a majority of 53 seats in the chamber.
