President Donald Trump announced Saturday that he had offered Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) President and CEO Dana White the position of White House press secretary, while proposing that White bring several well-known mixed martial arts fighters into the administration as assistants.

Trump made the announcement in a Truth Social post, describing White as a fighter and warrior before listing six professional fighters he wanted included in the proposed team. The president also acknowledged that some of the individuals were not American.

Trump's full post read: “I am pleased to announce that the Great Dana White, a violent Fighter and Warrior, has been offered the job of Press Secretary of the United States. I have requested that he bring with him assistants, even though some are not from our Country, of Islam Makhachev, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Justin Gaethje, Daniel Cormier, Amanda Nunes, and Kayla Harris. We need these people to defend us against the Lunatic Left. Dana will be a Press Secretary like none other. Dana, please take the job!”

The fighters Trump identified were Islam Makhachev, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Justin Gaethje, Daniel Cormier, Amanda Nunes and Kayla Harris. The proposed group includes current and former UFC champions and internationally recognized competitors. Trump's reference to individuals who are not from the United States appeared to acknowledge that some of his suggested assistants are foreign nationals.

The president framed the proposed appointments as a way to strengthen his administration's response to political opposition, specifically identifying the Left as the group White and the fighters would help counter. His description of the team suggests an unconventional approach to the traditionally communications-focused press secretary position, which involves briefing reporters, explaining administration policies and responding to questions about White House decisions.

White has maintained a close relationship with Trump for years. Their association dates back to the early days of the UFC's expansion, when Trump provided venues for the organization to hold events at his Atlantic City properties. White later became a prominent public supporter of Trump and appeared at Republican National Convention events during his presidential campaigns. Trump has also regularly attended UFC events, and the two have continued their association during his second administration.

Trump's post did not provide details about when White would begin the position or whether the proposed assistants would receive official government appointments. White had not publicly confirmed acceptance of the offer at the time of the announcement. The president's wording presented the position as an offer and concluded with a direct appeal for White to take the job
