President Donald Trump said Thursday that the United States will not attack Iran before the November midterm elections, while warning that Tehran will not be allowed to obtain a nuclear weapon.

Trump made the announcement in a post on Truth Social, saying the United States is engaged in “productive discussions” with the Islamic Republic of Iran. He described Iran as being in “very bad condition” economically and militarily, and confirmed that the U.S. blockade of the country will remain in place.

Trump also highlighted continued oil traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, claiming record levels of shipments. He said 22 million barrels moved through the waterway Wednesday night alone, with “not one barrel” coming from or going to Iran. The figure underscores the administration’s position that commercial shipping continues while Iranian oil remains restricted under the ongoing naval measures.

He stated clearly that the United States “will not be attacking Iran at any time prior to the Midterm Elections” on Nov. 3. The pledge comes against the backdrop of months of military tension, including U.S. and Israeli operations, Iranian retaliatory actions, and sustained pressure through the blockade. Trump has repeatedly portrayed Iran as severely weakened in its military capacity, currency and ability to sustain its forces.

Trump closed the post with a firm warning on the nuclear issue: “IRAN WILL NOT HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON!” The statement aligns with the administration’s long-standing position that preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear capability remains a core U.S. objective even as diplomatic contacts continue.
