President Donald Trump is set to host Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei at the White House Sunday night for their first one-on-one meeting. The dinner will be the first one-on-one meeting between Trump and Amodei.

The meeting comes after Amodei missed a White House state dinner earlier this week for Chinese President Xi Jinping because of a scheduling conflict. Other major technology executives, including OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Google CEO Sundar Pichai, attended that dinner.

President Trump personally invited Amodei to the private dinner afterward, according to people familiar with the plans.

The meeting also comes after a difficult year between Anthropic and the Trump administration, including a dispute involving the Pentagon over the military use of the company's artificial intelligence systems.

Despite those tensions, the Trump administration has continued emphasizing the importance of maintaining American leadership in artificial intelligence, particularly as the United States competes with China.

A White House official said Trump has made clear that the United States will lead the world in “Super Intelligence” while protecting American consumers and promoting American competitiveness.

President Trump and House Speaker Mike Johnson are also scheduled to meet with leading AI executives at the White House Tuesday, putting Amodei's dinner with the president ahead of a broader discussion about the future of artificial intelligence in the United States.
