President Donald Trump expressed his support for Flock Safety's automated license plate reader cameras during remarks to reporters aboard Air Force One on Sunday.

President Trump told the group that he "sort of like[s] them because of that, because of law enforcement," while acknowledging that "some people don't. They think it's an infringement." When a reporter noted that the cameras "help catch a lot of criminals," Trump replied, "I like them."

The comments marked the president's clearest public endorsement of the technology to date. Flock Safety operates a network of more than 120,000 AI-powered cameras across the United States that scan license plates and vehicle details to assist police investigations.

Many law enforcement agencies have credited the system with helping solve cases involving stolen vehicles, missing persons, and other crimes. The company reports that its cameras contribute to roughly one million investigations annually.

The remarks come amid growing bipartisan scrutiny of the technology. Lawmakers in both parties have raised concerns about privacy, data collection without warrants, and potential misuse by officers. A Senate Judiciary Committee probe led by Sen. Josh Hawley is underway, and Sen. Bernie Sanders has pledged legislation targeting the cameras.

Trump had previously avoided a firm stance on the issue. In August, he said the matter was "being studied" and that an answer would come in the coming weeks.

Flock Safety cameras have faced protests, vandalism, and contract cancellations in some cities, including the Los Angeles Police Department. Public opinion polls have shown divided views, with a plurality of Americans expressing opposition to expanded use by police.

Trump's endorsement aligns with a focus on tools that enhance public safety and support police operations. The technology continues to expand despite the debates in Congress and at the local level.
