Tucker Carlson is calling for President Donald Trump to have been removed from office over comments about the possibility of using overwhelming force against Iran, escalating his increasingly public break with the president.

During an NPR interview, Carlson said Trump should have been removed by his Cabinet after discussing whether to “annihilate the Islamic Republic” during his United Nations address.

“He should have been removed from office immediately when he threatened nuclear war,” Carlson said in a video posted to X.

When asked whether he was calling for the 25th Amendment to be invoked, Carlson said yes, adding that Trump “should have been bundled up and taken out.”

Carlson's position represents a significant departure from his previous support for Trump. The former Fox News host has increasingly criticized the administration over the Iran war and U.S. support for Israel.

Carlson also claimed that Trump privately agreed with him that the war was being pushed by Israel rather than primarily over Iran's nuclear program. He said Trump responded, “Yes, you’re right. But in the end, we all die anyway, so it doesn’t matter.”

Carlson provided no independent evidence for his account of the private conversation.

The White House responded by pointing to a Truth Social post in which Trump sharply criticized Carlson following the interview, calling him a “broken man” and suggesting he seek psychiatric care.
