U.S. and Cuban officials engaged in a heated shouting match on the floor of the United Nations General Assembly today, interrupting debate on the annual resolution condemning the decades-long U.S. economic embargo.

U.S. Ambassador to the UN Mike Waltz took the podium to urge delegates to oppose the measure. He highlighted years of alleged corruption by the socialist Cuban government. Members of the Cuban delegation, including Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, responded by slamming their table and calling for a point of order.

Rodríguez then walked down the aisle and shouted at Waltz, "You are a liar!" Waltz replied, "You understand who you're dealing with? This is America. Back up."

UN officials intervened to restore order, and the chair briefly suspended the session before allowing Waltz to continue. The exchange marks the latest in a series of public clashes between the two sides.

Tensions have risen amid the Trump administration's intensified economic pressure on Havana, including an oil blockade that has contributed to widespread power outages affecting cooking, water supplies, and communications across the island. Cuba has accused the United States of collective punishment.

A similar confrontation occurred last week outside a U.S.-hosted panel featuring Cuban dissidents and former political prisoners. The non-binding resolution, introduced by Cuba every year since 1992, has traditionally passed with overwhelming support, though only Congress can lift the embargo.

The incident underscores the breakdown in diplomatic norms as Washington pushes back against the Cuban regime's policies.
